Process
TOUR 2024: Voices in Public Space was a participatory arts initiative facilitated by Berlin’s Mestizx Collective which took place between April and December 2024 in the north of Pankow. Numerous participants engaged in workshops, utilized tools for participatory action, and attended events in public spaces. Amid the cultural and social tensions of today, TOUR 2024 encouraged various local actors to collaborate, the aim being to contribute to social transformation through art-making.
In TOUR 2024, you will find diverse formats such as public space interventions, the Multiplikator:innen Lab, the AUDIOTHEKA (a sound map of Berlin), the AUDIOTHEKA Game the MAPPING LAB for youth, Awareness Sessions for cultural events, multilingual performances on the “stage-bike” and one publication.

About our practice in 2024
This year, we continue building on the awareness concept (mindfulness and mutual care) that we initiated in 2023 with the MEHR SPRACH ICH project. Our goal remains to minimize discriminatory and harmful structures, creating an environment where personal boundaries are respected, and everyone can feel comfortable.
Our Practice: A Multi-Step ProcessConsultation
This year, we collaborated with external experts in barrier reduction for public space events, as well as awareness, de-escalation, plain language, and DGS translations.
Reflection
Our team regularly engages in discussions about experiences with violence, discrimination, barriers, and personal privileges to identify exclusionary practices and continue rethinking our approach.
Information
We ensure communication about accessibility is clear, sensitive to discrimination, and multilingual.
Planning
Our activities are designed to foster a safe and welcoming atmosphere for people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. As in previous years, a designated awareness representative is available during each event, both in person and by phone.

We continue to prioritize diversity in the selection of artists and strive to ensure event spaces are as accessible as possible.

This is visibly displayed at all events. Anyone who violates it will be asked to leave.
Follow-Up
After each event, we reflect on incidents together with those involved and take clear and responsible actions. We see awareness as an ongoing commitment and strive to structurally integrate it into all aspects of our work.
